In My Rainbow

Opportunities seem so ideal. If something presents itself to me I should take it, right? If everyone listened to their intuition or gave time to the many signs that may track their destiny it would be super funny.

I started writing a story in my head about a Puerto Rican riverbank. How I would travel there because I read in the paper that they were looking for a female to deal blackjack. I would work at the casino for one day until I met a young man who insisted I come work on his fishing boat. I get incredible sunburn on the boat and spend the night applying lotions and oil. The lotion gives off the sweetest scent of coconut and the next day I sit under a tree waiting for the coconuts to drop. Instead a tiny binturong falls into my lap and gazes up with adoring eyes. The hotel that I'm staying doesn't allow pets so I am forced to camp out on the beach. That night heavy rainfalls send shivers up my spine and kills my new friend. The morning is full of sadness and I visit a local chapel for a final farewell. I meet a little girl there who is praying for her baby sister who was born with a cleft palate. I take her for some ice cream where she describes local cuisine to me. I spend the afternoon looking for work as a dishwasher and eventually find a cute little cafe that hires me on the spot.

I spend the rest of my years with swollen, wrinkled fingers and never own a pet again.
